RS232 Serial Port Sharing Switch

Unit size: 118 × 94 × 38 mm. Constructed from cold-rolled steel with matte black finish. Contains four DB9 female RS232 interfaces — all pins wired straight-through per EIA-232 standard, including protective grounding. No LEDs, displays or status indicators — purely functional hardware. Enables secure, deterministic serial resource allocation: either route one RS232 device (e.g., barcode scanner, serial printer, legacy HMI) to any of four host computers on demand; or enable one host (e.g., SCADA server, diagnostics laptop) to cycle through four RS232 endpoints (e.g., pump controllers, valve positioners, environmental monitors) with one button press. Switching is momentary and non-latching — reverts to default port on power cycle if needed. Used daily in UK water treatment plants, Belgian packaging lines and Swedish R&D labs — chosen where uptime, auditability and avoidance of vendor lock-in outweigh convenience features like remote control or web UIs.
