Raspberry Pi RS485 CAN Adapter

This adapter HAT brings professional-grade industrial communication capabilities to any Raspberry Pi with a 40-pin header. It implements two essential fieldbus interfaces: CAN using the MCP2515 SPI controller and SN65HVD230 transceiver, and RS485 using the SP3485 transceiver managed through UART with automatic direction sensing. Power is drawn solely from the Pi’s 3.3V supply, ensuring clean, regulated operation. Critical signal lines — including CAN_H/L and RS485_A/B — are protected by TVS diodes rated for transient suppression, significantly improving tolerance to electrical disturbances. A single unallocated GPIO pad is exposed for optional user-defined functionality, maintaining compatibility with enclosure designs and stacked HAT configurations.
