LM2596 Step-Down Converter with Precision Voltmeter

This adjustable DC buck converter uses the LM2596 IC to convert 2.5V–40V input to 1.25V–37V output, supporting up to 3A continuous current. Physical size: 45mm × 27mm × 13mm; weight approx. 15g. Constructed on FR-4 PCB with selected electrolytic capacitors and optimised trace routing for low EMI. The digital voltmeter offers ±0.1V accuracy from 4–40V (inactive below 4V input), with intuitive button control to switch between input and output readings — indicated by dedicated IN/OUT LEDs. Settings survive power loss. Connection is simplified via screw terminals; solder pads remain accessible. Internal 150kHz oscillator enables high efficiency (up to 92%) and low standby consumption. Input-side reverse polarity protection, plus automatic thermal and short-circuit shutdown, enhance operational safety. Output ripple is suppressed via internal filtering; additional heatsinking advised for loads >15W.
