Lightweight Orienteering Compass with Declination Adjustment

This ultralight (36 g / 1.3 oz) baseplate compass is purpose-built for precision map navigation in the field. Made from impact-resistant transparent acrylic with laser-etched degree markings and high-visibility orienting lines. Features a low-friction rotating bezel with engraved declination scale, a fixed 3× magnifying lens centred on the index line, and six calibrated edge scales — including 1:25k and 1:50k Romer scales, metric ruler (mm/cm), and inch ruler. The declination scale is marked in 2° increments and aligns with the orienting arrow to allow immediate offset setting — vital for maintaining bearing accuracy across regions with varying declination values (e.g., +1° in Cornwall vs. −2° in northern Scotland). The magnifier is optically ground for minimal distortion and positioned to work seamlessly with standard UK OS Explorer and Landranger maps. Designed for real-world use: tested on UK trails, Scottish hills, and European alpine terrain. Suitable for Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh participants, geography students, military cadets, and self-reliant backpackers who depend on passive, battery-free navigation.
