A purpose-built training tool for those new to surface-mount technology, this kit centres on a 145mm × 100mm FR-4 PCB — known for its dimensional stability, thermal resistance and compatibility with lead-free soldering processes. All 300 components are standard SMD types commonly encountered in consumer electronics repair and prototyping. Power is delivered via a robust DC9V input, supported by internal AC6V-to-DC9V conversion using discrete diodes and electrolytic capacitors — eliminating external adapters and simplifying setup. Twelve separate LED-based test circuits allow parallel assessment of solder quality: each group of eight LEDs activates in timed sequence or remains lit continuously depending on correct IC communication and connection integrity. The board’s physical footprint and pad spacing have been calibrated for novice dexterity and visibility under magnification.
