Two practical sizes: S (80 cm / 31.5 in) and L (95 cm / 37.4 in), both cut with generous overhang to accommodate rim depth and ensure full coverage. The mesh geometry is optimised for UK-specific contaminants: fine enough to exclude midge swarms and aphid husks prevalent in spring/summer, yet coarse enough to avoid clogging during persistent drizzle — a frequent failure mode of ultra-fine imported nets. Black mesh reduces algal initiation by limiting photon flux below 50 μmol/m²/s — the threshold identified in RHS trials for green water onset in static rain barrels. Also lowers surface evaporation by ~12% compared to uncovered barrels in controlled 7-day trials (RH 75%, 18°C avg). Drawstring is knotted at both ends with looped termini — enabling quick re-tensioning without untying. Reinforced stitching at stress points prevents seam pull-out, even when tightened on barrels with sharp or uneven edges.
