Compact Metal Map Measuring Odometer

Mechanical odometer for paper maps using a 7.8 cm diameter hardened steel wheel; counter displays distance in metres with 10 m resolution up to 999 m, then rolls over; overall unit weighs 115 g; dimensions: 8.2 cm (L) × 7.8 cm (W) × 2.9 cm (H); housing made of fibre-reinforced polypropylene with metal axle and gear components; IPX4-rated for rain resistance; compatible with all standard UK and EU topographic maps (OS, IGN, Kompass, Freytag & Berndt). No setup, no settings — just place, roll, and read. The gear ratio is factory-set for 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale maps, with optional manual conversion factor printed on baseplate. Counter window uses scratch-resistant acrylic for long-term clarity in muddy or sandy environments. Commonly deployed by ramblers documenting LDWA challenges, cycling tour planners verifying EuroVelo route lengths, and youth group leaders teaching map literacy — where simplicity, consistency, and independence from connectivity define tool value.
