The best time to repot with SERAMIS® Special Substrate for Cacti and Succulents is from January to March, but it can also be done after flowering until September. Repotting in spring is particularly recommended to give the plants enough space for the upcoming growth spurt due to increased sunlight. Preparation• Use a planter with a vent hole to allow excess water to drain into the planter or saucer. For ball cacti and succulents with compact growth, choose the new pot so that it offers the root ball about two centimetres more space all around than the original one. In the case of columnar cacti and succulents, with a secure footing, have a diameter of at least one third of the height of the plant.• Cover the drainage hole in the container with gravel or pottery shards.• Do not water the plant about a week before repotting, this will make it easier to pot it out and free it from excess soil.• Gently loosen the root ball and remove dead roots. Repotting• To repot, fill the pot with drainage hole 1/3 with SERAMIS® Special Substrate, place the root ball of the plant to be potted in the middle of the pot and continue to fill evenly with SERAMIS® Special Substrate for Cacti and Succulents until the root ball is covered. Tap the pot lightly so that it can wrap around the roots. Leave a watering rim of about one centimetre upwards towards the edge of the pot.• The location requirements of the respective cacti and succulents in terms of light and temperature must be taken into account. Care• The freshly potted plant should only be watered after about a week, until excess water runs into the saucer or planter. Remove the excess water no later than 3 hours after watering.• To reliably determine the ideal watering time, the SERAMIS® watering indicator can be used for medium to large pots. During the growing and flowering period, you can water according to the watering indicator, otherwise the substrate will only be slightly moistened from time to time.• Cacti have a significantly reduced water requirement compared to other crops. In winter and during the resting period, watering should therefore be stopped completely. However, if the cacti are left in heated rooms, the special substrate should be slightly moistened from time to time.• For optimal plant growth, the plants should be regularly supplied with all important nutrients. Therefore, fertilize your plants with SERAMIS® Vital Food for Flowering Plants.
