46mm Variable ND2 ND400 Filter

This 46mm variable neutral density filter uses two stacked circular polarisers in an aluminium alloy housing with tempered optical glass elements. Total weight is kept minimal for handheld operation, while structural integrity prevents misalignment during repeated use. The ND range spans from ND2 (transmitting 50% of light) to ND400 (transmitting just 0.25%), supporting shutter speeds from 1/1000s down to several seconds depending on lighting. To ensure even exposure, users should begin calibration facing open sky: rotate slowly until the first sign of uneven dimming (‘X-shadow’) appears in the viewfinder, then mark that position as the effective maximum for balanced results. Further rotation beyond this point increases density but introduces visible banding — which can be reduced only by extending exposure time to 4 seconds or more. Not suitable for ND1000+ applications due to inherent physical limits of the dual-CPL design.
